SAMR model

 


The SAMR model, standing for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition, is a framework used to assess and guide the integration of technology in education. It categorizes technology use into four levels, each representing a different degree of transformation in teaching and learning practices. At the substitution level, technology is used as a direct substitute for traditional tools without significant changes to the task. Augmentation involves enhancing tasks using technology, offering improvements such as additional features or functionalities. Modification entails significant redesign of tasks through technology, leading to a noticeable change in the learning experience. Finally, redefinition involves the creation of new tasks that were previously inconceivable without technology, fundamentally transforming teaching and learning processes. 

The SAMR model encourages educators to move beyond simply using technology as a substitute and strive towards redefining learning experiences to leverage the full potential of technology in education. It provides a framework for educators to critically evaluate their use of technology and aim for higher levels of transformation to maximize its impact on student learning and achievement.

Previous knowledge: students already know the different types of nutrients food contains such as carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamin, mineral, fiber and water.

Lesson objectives: At the end of the lesson students will be able to :

  • define balanced diet and its component correctly in their own words after the teachers input
  • write at least two importance of maintaining a balanced diet precisely after carrying out the activity
  • evaluate their current eating habits and identify areas where they can make healthier choices after the activity.

 

Lesson Introduction ( 5 minutes)

Begin the lesson by showing students the video link on balanced diet and let them brainstorm on what is a balanced diet.

Lesson Development ( 35 minutes)

 Information Input

explain the concept of a balanced diet in detail using the food pyramid model.

Diet- the food that we eat every day is called diet.

 Balanced diet- the diet that provides the required amount of nutrients like carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, mineral water and fiber is called a balanced diet.

The food pyramid represents different food groups with the largest section at the bottom and the smallest section at the top. The size of each section indicates the recommended proportion of each food group in a healthy diet.

 

Activity 1 ( 15 minutes) 

This activity will be carried out in groups.

Activity 2 ( 15 minutes)

Allow students to create a meal plan for a day that includes foods from each of the food groups. This activity will allow students to apply what they have learned and practice making healthy food choices.This activity will be carried out individually.

Follow up activities 

let students share their views on the activities they have carried out and to share one or two points on what they have learned after carrying out the activities.

 Lesson Closure ( 5 minutes)

Lessons will be closed by allowing students to do a round robin where they will list down the things they have learnt in this session. This will help teachers to evaluate their understanding and reinforce the importance of healthy eating.
